FBUSD delivers exceptional, engaging, equitable, and collaborative learning opportunities for all students.

Migrant Education Services

FBUSD is proud to serve students and families from migrant agricultural and fishing backgrounds who are vital members of our Mendocino Coast community. The Migrant Education Program (MEP) provides specialized academic support and supplemental services to help migrant students overcome the unique challenges that come with seasonal work and relocation — and to ensure every migrant student has the same opportunity to succeed as any other FBUSD student.

Who Qualifies?

The Migrant Education Program serves children and youth whose families move across school district or state lines to seek or obtain work in agriculture, dairy, fishing, or related industries. Students may qualify if they have moved in the last three years due to this type of work — even if the move was temporary or seasonal.

Eligibility is determined through a brief enrollment interview. If you think your family may qualify, please contact our Migrant Education Coordinator — there is no cost, and participation does not affect any other services your family receives.

Services & Support

The Migrant Education Program provides a range of supplemental services designed to support migrant students' academic progress, wellbeing, and connection to school. Services may include:

  • Academic support — tutoring, homework help, and targeted academic intervention to help students stay on grade level despite school changes
  • English Language Development — additional support for students developing English proficiency
  • Health referrals — connections to health and dental services for eligible students and families
  • School readiness support — assistance for preschool-age children of migrant families
  • Credit accrual and recovery — support for secondary students who need to make up credits due to school transitions
  • Family engagement — outreach and support to help migrant families stay informed and connected to their child's education
  • Referrals to community resources — connections to additional services available to migrant families in the Mendocino Coast area

Parent Advisory Committee

FBUSD's Migrant Education Program includes an active Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) — also referred to as the Junta del Comité Consejero de Padres — where migrant parents and guardians have the opportunity to participate in decisions that affect the program and their children's education.

PAC meetings are held virtually via Google Meet throughout the school year. All migrant families are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Meeting dates and agendas will be posted here when available. Contact our Migrant Education Coordinator for the current schedule.

District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC)

FBUSD's District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) also serves many of our migrant families. DELAC meetings provide an opportunity for parents of English Learners to advise the district on programs and services. Meetings are held at Fort Bragg High School, Room 306.

Meeting agendas and minutes are available upon request. Contact our EL Coordinator for more information.
