AP & Dual Enrollment
Fort Bragg High School offers multiple pathways for students to challenge themselves academically and get a head start on college — all while earning their high school diploma. Whether through Advanced Placement courses or Dual Enrollment with Mendocino College, FBHS students have real opportunities to earn college credit before graduation.
Advanced Placement (AP) Classes
Advanced Placement courses are rigorous, college-level classes offered at Fort Bragg High School. Students who complete an AP course have the opportunity to take the AP Exam at the end of the year. A qualifying exam score may earn college credit that is accepted at most colleges and universities nationwide — potentially saving students time and money on their college education.
AP courses challenge students to think critically, write analytically, and develop the academic habits they'll rely on in college and beyond. Taking AP classes signals to colleges that a student is prepared for rigorous academic work.
For information on which AP courses are currently offered at FBHS, contact the Fort Bragg High School Counseling Office.
Dual Enrollment
In partnership with Mendocino CollegeDual Enrollment allows FBHS students in grades 10–12 to take actual college courses — taught by college instructors — right on the high school campus during the regular school day. These courses count toward both a student's high school diploma and their college transcript simultaneously.
Best of all, dual enrollment courses are completely free for FBHS students. There is no tuition or fees.
FBHS also introduces the college experience early through Freshman Seminar, a year-long class for all 9th graders. The spring semester features CCS-100: Career Planning Success, a Mendocino College dual enrollment course — giving freshmen their first taste of college coursework from day one.
Recent dual enrollment course offerings have included:
Public Speaking, Critical Thinking with Literature, Statistics, Creative Writing, History, Philosophy, Spanish, Introduction to Nursing, Work Experience Education, and Career Planning Success — with new courses added regularly.
How to get started:
Students interested in dual enrollment should speak with their FBHS counselor to review eligibility, course availability, and the enrollment steps required to register with Mendocino College.
