About FBUSD
Welcome to Fort Bragg Unified School District
At Fort Bragg Unified School District, we believe every child deserves an education that opens doors. Nestled along the stunning Mendocino Coast, our community is home to a school district that is small enough to know every student by name — and committed enough to prepare them for wherever life takes them.
Our Mission
FBUSD delivers exceptional, engaging, equitable, and collaborative learning opportunities for all students.
Our Vision
Every student receives engaging and challenging learning experiences to reach their greatest potential and thrive in a diverse global society.
Who We Are
FBUSD is a proud reflection of the Fort Bragg community. Our student body is beautifully diverse — 46.6% Hispanic, 40.8% Anglo, 6% multiracial, and 7.9% of other ethnicities including African American, Asian American, and Native American students. About 19% of our students are English Learners, and 13.2% receive special education services.
Because we believe no child should go hungry at school, FBUSD participates in the Community Eligibility Program (CEP) — meaning all students eat school meals free of charge, every day. Our school gardens even supply fresh produce to our kitchens, and our Nutrition Services team has been recognized for their creativity and commitment to serving students real, healthy food.
Rooted in Our Community
Fort Bragg is a town shaped by generations of hard work — in the forests, on the water, and now in the thriving businesses and services that make our coast a destination. With a population of approximately 7,000 in the city and 14,000 across the district service area, Fort Bragg is a close-knit community where neighbors look out for one another — and that spirit extends into our schools.
FBUSD is fortunate to have active Parent and Booster Clubs at every school, raising thousands of dollars each year to support extracurricular activities. We also maintain strong partnerships with Flockworks, the Mendocino Coast Recreation and Parks Department, Mendocino Coast Clinics, and the City of Fort Bragg — because we know that educating a child takes a whole community.
Our Commitment to Every Student
We serve a community where many families face real economic challenges. Roughly 78.7% of our students are socioeconomically disadvantaged, and 17% of Fort Bragg youth under 18 live in poverty. We don't shy away from that reality — we face it head-on. Our job is to make sure that a student's zip code or family income never limits what they can achieve. Every program we offer, every partnership we build, and every dollar we spend is guided by that belief.
FBUSD is charged with educating our youth and preparing them for an uncertain world. We take that responsibility seriously — and we're honored to do it alongside the families and students of the Mendocino Coast.
