Mendocino County Farm Bureau Scholarship

This scholarship is to give aid to students who have a desire to start a  an ag-related field.  The scholarship award is based on leadership skills, high school or college GPA, extra-curricular activities and "a commitment to study agriculture." You must be enrolled in a trade school, college or university full time.

Applications are available in the counseling office.

This application has a postmark deadline of March 15.

 

Italian Catholic Federation
To be eligible for this scholarship student must:

be Roman Catholic
be of Italian descent

have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2

Mendocino County Youth Project

The Youth Project is once again offering to help a student by giving a $500 educational grant. 

Their award is designated for a student who has specifically aimed at those students who have overcome significant challenges in graduating from high school.

Shoreline Riders Inc. Scholarship

This scholarship is open to all; it is not limited to members of the Shoreline Riders organization.

Region 14 of the American Iris Society 

This award shall be given to a student demonstrating interest in iris activities with the Region 14 or pursuing a career in horticulture, floriculture, landscaping, nursery production, or a related field.  

Applications are available in the counseling office for this scholarship.

This application must be postmarked by April 2.

Civil Service Employees Insurance Group

This scholarship is for students who are children of full-time or retired public service employees. Scholarships of $500 - $1500 will be awarded based on the merit of student essays that propose ways to reduce the accident rate among teenagers.

The Community Foundation of Mendocino County website displays information on scholarships that are available to FBHS seniors.  

The California Retired Teachers Association Division 55 Bessie Scott Scholarship Fund offers scholarships in honor of Ukiah teacher Bessie Scott.  One scholarship is awarded annually to a student starting at a four-year college with plans to become a teacher.

The California Retired Teachers Association Division 55 Hilmer Finne Scholarship Fund offers scholarships in honor of  Hilmer and Vivian Finne.  One scholarship is awarded annually to a student starting at a four-year college with plans to pursue a career in music or music education.

Susan Juhl, in honor of Jerry Juhl  has created a fund for the arts that gives a scholarship each year to a student starting a four-year college to study performing arts including music, dance,theatre, film, and puppetry.  Awardees are selected for their potential for career success in the performing arts and their prior academic performance (a 3.0 GPA is desired, but not required.)

Mendocino Coast Chamber of Commerce

Mendocino Coast Gem & Mineral Society

Criteria:

  • Must have 3.0 GPA
  • Must be preparing for a career in an earth science which could include geology, mineralogy, paleontology, geography, meteorology, marine biology, civil or mining engineering, geophysics, volcanology, seismology, physiography, anthropology, or archeology.  A student wishing to enroll in a full time course in gemology, or jewelry making would also be considered.
  • There must be evidence of financial need.

The application for this scholarship is a photocopy of your entire FBHS General Scholarship Application along with a new cover page and a statement of your interest in earth science or related major, and also a letter of recommendation from your science teacher if your scholarship letters are not from that person.

Fort Bragg Girls' Softball Association

To be eligible for this the applicant must have played softball with this organization.

Mendocino - Lake County Medical Society Health Careers Scholarship

The Mendocino-Lake County Medical Society Health Careers Scholarship Committee is offering a $5000 scholarship to a qualified high school senior with a sincere interest in pursuing a career as a physician, nurse, or other healthcare profession who has been accepted to a college, university, or related school.  An initial $1000 award will be followed with $1000 annual awards for up to four years based on progress reports.  A student from a Mendocino County high school will be selected in time for the award to be presented at the FBHS graduation ceremony.

Portuguese Historical and Cultural Society

To be eligible, student must be of Portuguese descent and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Applications are available in the counseling office.

THE FORT BRAGG ROTARY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION


The Fort Bragg Rotary Club offers three different scholarships each school year:
• Don Applegate Academic Scholarship
• Bill Shanks Art Scholarship
• Bill McNeel Vocational Scholarship


To apply for a Fort Bragg Rotary Scholarship, choose the type of scholarship that you feel you best qualify for, then:

• Make a Cover Page indicating which of the above-named scholarships you are applying for (you may apply for just one of the three)
• Photocopy your ENTIRE FBHS General Application: application page, resume, essay, letters of recommendation
• Request a new transcript from the Counseling Office.

Empire College

If you are planning to attend Empire College, please pick up this scholarship application in the counseling office.

Completed applications must be received in Santa Rosa by April 26.

Mendo Lake Credit Union

To be eligible for this you must have an open account with the 

Mendo Lake Credit Union.

This organization will accept our FBHS General Application, but your essay must be about your post college plans and goals as they pertain to your field of study.  The essay is to be 200 words or fewer.

Sons of Italy Vocational Scholarship

(You do not have to be Italian to be eligible!)

American Legion Auxiliary Sequoia Unit #96

Ellen Taylor Memorial Scholarship

The American Legion and Auxiliary is a national organization composed of honorably discharged veterans.  One of the main purposes of this organization is that of furthering the education and welfare of persons who desire to obtain higher educational training.  The ability to succeed in schools of advanced learning and financial need are emphasized in the selection of recipients.  Primary consideration will be given to scholastic achievement, qualities of leadership, vocational promise, and sincerity of purpose.  Unusual talents will be recognized. 

The award will be granted following graduation from high school during the student’s first semester of enrollment, or equivalent, at an institution of higher learning.  Should recipient not make use of the award within nine (9) months of the award, then a first or second alternate will be considered. 

The Executive Board of the American Legion Auxiliary and the scholarship committee will make the final decision in selecting a candidate.

To be eligible for this award the applicant must:

  1. Be a graduate of FBHS by the summer of the year of the award.
  2. Be a citizen of the U.S.A.
  3. Be a son, daughter, or grandchild of an honorably discharged veteran.
  4. Comply with all rules and regulations adopted by the American Legion and Auxiliary           for the administration and award of scholarships.

You must be enrolling in a trade or technical program with a course of study that will be completed in to be two years.

Mendocino County Cattlemen's Association's Rudy Mora Beef Scholarship 
(Intended for students who have been accepted or are attending an accredited college, university, or trade school)
To be eligible, the student must have high moral character, good citizenship, strong work ethics, financial need and have been active in 4-H.  Also, the student must have at least a 3.0 GPA.  
          Applications are available in the counseling office.
          Application deadline is May 1.

Fort Bragg Lions Club Scholarship

Criteria:

Citzenship --  (20 pts.) This includes the student's community involvement, extra-curricular activities, and leadership qualities.

Essay -- (20 pts.) The student is required to write an essay presenting a brief background of themselves, their career goals, and why they feel they deserve the scholarship.  Grammar, spelling and punctuation will also be considered in the scoring process.  The essay should not exceed two pages in length. 

Grade Point Average -- (20 pts.) The student's grade oint average will be scored on a sliding scale, from 4.0 - 0 points for a 2.0.  Students with a GPA below 2.0 will not be considered for the program without requesting an exception from the committee.  

Financial Need -- (20 pts.) A scoring system based on family income will award points to the student based on their need for financial assistance in achieving their educational goals.

"Vocational" nature of student's goals -- (20 pts.) Since the scholarship is designed for a students with a vocational career goal, points will be awarded for students planning to attend a vocational program versus a 4-year university program.

All graduating seniors from all Fort Bragg High Schools are encouraged to apply. You may use your FBHS scholarship application, but please re-read your essay and adjust it to fit the above guidelines.

 All applications should be submitted to the High School counseling office no later than May 7th 2010.
