Jean Whipple
Teacher, Lighthouse Community Day School
After trying out a few different careers in 7 or 8 different states, including restaurant manager, ski bum, customer service rep, bicycle and backpack sales, blues saxophone player and nomad, I find myself lucky enough to be a teacher in the lovely town of Fort Bragg.
Born in the Deep South, (I’m talking Georgia, not L.A.) raised in Atlanta and graduated from Emory University, I chose the West as my home the first time I got a glimpse of the Rocky Mountains. I’ve lived in big towns like Oakland, L.A., and Atlanta, and small ones like Breckenridge, CO, Bozeman, MT, and now Fort Bragg. Anchorage, AK was the coldest, Key West, FL the hottest. Along the way I’ve also visited a few foreign countries - most recently Australia. No worries, mate. My teaching credential is from Holy Names University in Oakland, and prior to Lighthouse I taught in Oakland, Mendocino and Albion.
I enjoy being mom to two teenagers, playing my saxophone, reading, writing, traveling, and getting outside to play. Going into our fourth year in Fort Bragg, my family is settled in and happy to be at home by the sea.
