KAREN RAKOFSKY
Teacher, Noyo High School
Karen was born in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Oceanside, NY when she was three. She went to college and lived in New York City for four years, then headed west to the Bay Area. After 9 months in the East Bay, she moved to the Mendocino Coast. Since then, she spent two years in Aracata and two in San Francisco, but she's always considered Albion her home. Karen earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Dramatic Literature, Theatre History and the Cinema from New York University, her Master of Arts in Theatre Arts from Humboldt State University, and her teaching credential from Dominican University.
Karen taught part-time at College of the Redwoods for 20 years, including 7 years teaching through C/R at Chamberlain Creek Conservation Camp. She worked for the North Coast Professional Development Consortium/MCOE as a resource teacher and staff development specialist. Before that, Karen was a first grade teacher at the KZV Armenian School. Before coming to Noyo, Karen was a special education instructional assistant, dance and drama instructor, and home school and independent study teacher for Mendocino Grammar School.
These days, Karen loves singing with others and is a member of the Mendocino Women's Choir. She also enjoys gardening, swimming, reading and taking daily long walks.
