Classified Substitute Employment Information
All classified positions, positions that do not require a teaching credential, do require a High School Diploma or equivalent, and a passing score on the California Paraprofessional Proficiency Exam (testing can be arranged with the personnel office). If you possess a minimum 60 units of college coursework spread equally among the five core subject areas, or possess an associate’s degree or higher, or possess verification of a passing score on the California Paraprofessional Proficiency Exam taken in another California school district, you are exempt from the exam but must provide verification in the form of official transcripts, or a letter from the agency on agency letterhead, where the exam was passed.
For consideration of employment as a classified substitute the following documents must be submitted with the application:
- A completed school district Classified Employment Application *
- A copy of verification proving a negative TB Test result (less than 4 years old)
- Verification of a completed fingerprint background check by a local law enforcement agency **
- Verification of Paraprofessional Proficiency Exam Passing Score
Substitutes work on an on-call, as-needed basis. There is no guarantee of minimum hours, nor is there a guarantee that you will be hired as an employee. Classified Substitutes are assigned to fill the position of a regular employee who is absent from work. Classified substitutes are subject to specific assignments, transfers, or termination of assignments at the discretion of the District. A Classified Substitute Handbook is available for your reference.
*Applications for classified substitutes are accepted throughout the year but submission of employment materials does not guarantee employment.
** Candidates without clearance of a fingerprint background check performed by local law enforcement for the school district, will not be allowed to work until after clearance has been obtained.
